For Jordan Davis and so many musicians, the coronavirus pandemic resulted in a huge roadblock when it came to accomplishing career goals. Instead of performing in front of thousands of fans or hustling around the country, many artists had to adjust to a new normal that wasn't always easy.
"During those first couple of months of quarantine, when everything was up in the air and I didn't know when I was going to be able to tour again or what was going to happen to my band, I was just kind of in a bad place professionally and I think I kind of let that bleed over into my personal life," Jordan exclusively shared with E! News. "It's something I never want to do again."
But as the world became unpredictable, Jordan discovered some things never change.
"The one thing that remained constant through it all was my faith, my family and my friends," he shared. "It made me zero in on how grateful I am and if I keep those three things at the top of my list, everything that falls underneath that can waver and change, but to me, true happiness is really loving the special things and cherishing that."
That message is heard throughout his new EP out Friday, May 21. Titled Buy Dirt, the new body of music features the smash-hit "Almost Maybes." But it's the title track featuring Luke Bryan that stands out to Jordan.
"It really has nothing to do with buying dirt," he admitted. "It's kind of what you do with the dirt you've been given. For me, it's my daughter. It's my wife. It's my friends. It's my faith and those are where we get real happiness from and chasing anything outside of that, you're just chasing a ghost. I'm just going to focus on coming out of this pandemic by zeroing in on being the best dad and the best husband that I can be and I think that's going to carry over to my music as well."
This fall, Jordan will hit the road with Kane Brown. After spending so much quality time with his own 18-month-old daughter Eloise, the 33-year-old dad knows it's going to be an adjustment. Fortunately, his tour mate is also a proud dad.
"Kane Brown is one of the best guys in music and a great thing too is that he has a daughter that is about Eloise's age and I know that they'll be out," Jordan shared. "Dads will go play a show and Kingsley and Eloise and go and have a little play date backstage."
It's another sign that Jordan's priorities have shifted after the COVID-19 pandemic. According to the singer, life was always about what was coming next for him music wise. However, this mindset caused him to miss out on the things that were happening in the present. Moving forward, things are going to be different.
"I never want to get back to that state of, ‘Let's look to next year' or "What are we going to do then?' and be grateful for what we have right now," Jordan proclaimed. "We've seen what it's like when that goes away, and it's not fun for anybody. I just want to be in the moment, be the best dad I can be, be the best husband I can be, be the best friend I can be. If I take care of all those things and keep those at the top of the priorities list, I think that everything else will shake out the way that it's supposed to."
And while not every day is a perfect day, Jordan is the first to say he wouldn't be the guy he is now without his faith.
"My faith has put me in the rooms with people that I've needed to be with at certain times in my life," he shared. "I'm not perfect by any means, but it's something that I strive to know Him more every day. I'm grateful for a lot of the people that are around me that help me with that journey."
