Snapchat Is Rolling Out a Way to Actually Save Snaps Once and for All

Big changes are coming to Snap.

It's a big day for Snapchat users.

Never again will you forget to save your stories, pull up your profile, and discover that you've tragically passed the 24-hour mark. Never again will you wonder, huh, what did I snap last Saturday? Never again will you accidentally send something to every single one of your Snapchat friends that absolutely was not supposed to be sent to any of your Snapchat friends.

Today, friends, is Memories Day.

Let us explain, because that sounds kind of bizarre. The social media company announced that it will be introducing a new feature called Memories, designed to give users a better way to save their favorite pics and even send them to friends.

It will work like this: First, swipe up from the camera screen. (Well, we're getting a wee bit ahead of ourselves—you'll have to wait until you're eligible for the feature, which you'll know because Team Snapchat sends you a message saying as much.) You can then search through all your old Memories by using terms like "Beach" or the month and year, or even looking through snaps you took when you were nearby. Crazy, right?

Once you've found your favorite old snap, you can send it out as a new story or even combine it with other old snaps to create a longer story. You can even go back in and edit your old Memories by adding text or Geofilters. Then you send away—and don't worry, these stories will automatically have a frame that labels them as a Memory so that your friends don't get super confused and think that you randomly jetted off to Thailand again

But there's more! Snapchat has created a sneaky little folder called My Eyes Only, that lets you store old stories that you don't really want anyone to see again. You can create a password that blocks would-be phone-borrowers from seeing those pics, although we must warn you: No one, not even Snapchat HQ, can help you break into the folder if you forget said password. You'll have to start all over again with a new My Eyes Only folder, and the snaps that were previously saved will never be seen again.

Because Snapchat is serious business.
