"Thank you very much to the Screen Actors Guild," the director and screenwriter said in a statement. "I'm deeply proud of the cast of The Trial of The Chicago 7, led by Yahya Abdul Mateen II, Sacha Baron Cohen, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Michael Keaton, Frank Langella, John Carroll Lynch, Eddie Redmayne, Mark Rylance, Alex Sharp and Jeremy Strong."
He added, "A special thank you to Francine Maisler, who put together this extraordinary cast. They say that casting good actors is 90% of the battle and I think whoever said that was dramatically underestimating the importance of casting, especially when you're talking about a teeming ensemble with tons of moving parts and a feverish hunt for the on-set alchemy that will make that ensemble sing. So I certainly stood on the shoulders of giants with this film. It was such a great honor to work with them to tell this urgent story that shows us that truth and justice do matter and, when both are in jeopardy, the fight to preserve them is essential."
